TASK ONE: Preliminary Task and Evaluation

Preliminary Task

For our Preliminary task we not only wanted to include the shots that we were told to, but we wanted to use others as well.

The first cut shows Issey walking up to her locker, this was a long shot because we can see her whole body. This shot is effective because it sets the scene for action and roles in the viewer.

The second shot that we used was the Match On Action. This is where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. For example: someone is filmed walking up to the door and opening it, then it cuts to the person on the other side of the door coming out. We used this Match-On-Action shot so that the cuts are clean and we didn't include any irrelevant filming in-between the cuts.We wanted to try something different so we had Issey walk up to her locker and it cut to the other side where we put the camera inside of the locker.

The scene cuts again and Issey turns around and bumps into Tia. Then is cuts again and we follow both Issey and Tia as they kneel down to collect the books that have been dropped. This is all filmed using the 180 Degree Rule. This rule means that you can only film from one side of an imaginary circle. We used this rule throughout the whole clip. Using this rule shows continuity and it shows that the camera is being moved around.

Now, the camera is behind Issey, and looking at Tia. Here we used an Over the shoulder shot. This type of shot is very common when two people are having a discussion and will usually allow an establishing shot which helps the audience place the characters in their setting.

As the dialogue continues to flow we then used Close up shots of both Issey and Tia. Going from one person to another as each of them speak we also did Shot-Reverse-Shot. This shot is used to contracts the characters and it highlights their differences and reactions.

The scene then cuts to a Mid shot of Issey and Tia. They both then walk away making a Long shot return.

To edit our Preliminary Task we used Final Cut Pro on the Macs. Here we deleted bloopers and used the Blade to cut what we didn't want and we then put the clips next to each other. At the end we then used the Cross Dissolve effect which made the ending scene as Tia and Issey walked off turn to black. This made it clear that it was the end of our clip.
